These acts are performed in tents, hangars, vacant buildings, the harbour and outdoor public areas all over the city. And when you've had enough culture for one day, you can go to the Summer bar and sit in a reclining chair on the sand, with a cocktail in your hand, watching the sun set over the Schelde.

Taste olives and buy sunflowers at the Vreemdelingenmarkt

Every Saturday you can taste and smell the entire world at the Vreemdelingen– markt on the Theatre square. Antwerp wakes up to the calls of market vendors praising their wares and trying to sell you sunflowers, exotic olives, tapenades and juicy fruits.

Enjoy a sultry summer evening at the outdoor cafe of Café Zeezicht

Oddly enough there is no water in sight and yet this bar is called Café Zeezicht (Cafe Sea View). The cafe is like a communal garden for people living in the area and there’s a pleasant sense of familiarity amongst its costumers. Nothing beats enjoying a refreshing Bolleke (Belgian beer) on the terrace of this old style cafe. One thing's for sure, here you never be alone!

Watching animals in the Antwerp Zoo

The Antwerp Zoo is located in the centre of the city, right beside to the Central Station. Yet, once inside you'll feel as though you're far away from the bustle of the city. The Zoo is not only an animal park but also a beautifully designed garden where you can enjoy the colourful flowers and fabulous plants. But the 5,0000 animals are the main attraction – always endearing, funny or fascinating.

Explore Antwerp by boat

A visit to Antwerp is not complete without a boat trip on the Schelde, which offers you the opportunity to see all aspects of the city. You can also take a tour of the harbour or boat trips to the towns in the vicinity of Antwerp; or take a boat to the other side of the Schelde to the left bank, where Antwerp also has a real beach: Sint-Anneke. Do you feel like eating mussels with your feet (almost) in the sand and a view on the cathedral? Then this is the place for you!
