Choice days

Senior citizens receive extra benefits with the NS. If you are 60 years or older, you can purchase 7 "choice days" which can be used in the upcoming year. On these choice days (the date of which you yourself get to pick) you may travel criss-cross through the Netherlands for free. This way trips to Antwerp or Brussels become cheaper. A low-fixed ticket Amsterdam to Antwerp usually costs €37.60, but with a choice day you can purchase a return ticket from any station in the Netherlands for just € 9.20. Would you prefer to visit Brussels? Then pay € 18.20 instead of € 46.60!

How to buy a ticket with choice day discount

On the Preferences page of the bookings module on NSHispeed.nl, check the box "OV-jaarkaart / NS Reisrecht" and you will receive the discount price which will be visable to you in step 3 Overview.

Railplus

Travel with discount to 23 European counties! It's possible with the international discount card RailPlus. Customers with a Off-peak Discount 60+ Pass automatically receive a RailPlus card and do not have to purchase one. With a RailPlus pass you will get 25% discount on the full fare of international single and return tickets.

Special fares for senior citizens

Both Thalys and Eurostar offer reduced fares for senior citizens meaning will receive discount over the entire journey and not just the route in the Netherlands. Please note, however, that some of these special fares are limited, so we advise you to book your tickets early.

Thalys

The following conditions apply for reduced Thalys tickets

• 60 or older (on the day of travel)
• Single trip, available in Comfort 1 and Comfort 2
• Can change the ticket once before departure or till one hour after departre from a Thalys departure station
• 100% money back guarentee up until one hour after departre from a Thalys departure station
• This offer is subject to availability

Thalys tickets can be purchased up to 3 months before departure.

Eurostar

The following conditions apply for reduced Eurostar tickets (from € 88 return):

• Must be a return ticket
• Only available in 2nd class
• Proof of identification required
• No rebooking or refunds

Eurostar tickets can be purchased up to 4 months before departure.
