Destinations ICE International
ICE International is the high-speed train that travels from the Netherlands to Germany every day. Travelling on an ICE International train is comfortable and relaxing. ICE International also cuts down your travel time as the train reaches speeds of up to 300 km/h between Cologne and Frankfurt!

New fares
You are now able to book your train journeys to destinations in Germany at the Europa Spezial fare. This supersedes the Superdiscount and Discount fares. Europa Spezial offers a range of pricing levels and associated terms and conditions.

ICE International supplement
Asupplement is mandatory for your domestic trip with ICE International (Amsterdam – Arnhem). Passengers with a subscription that is valid for NS services, can travel with ICE International within the Netherlands without paying a supplement.

To provide the best possible service, we make our tickets available in various ways. The easiest and fastest way is to purchase your ticket online. More information
Pre-sale period and seat reservations
ICE International tickets can be booked as early as 92 days^ before your departure date. Although not required, we advise you to reserve a seat in advance. You will then receive a seat reservation voucher with carriage and seat number. When you book you ticket online, the seat reservation is always included.
^This period can be reduced should there be a change in the timetables.
Classes on ICE International
ICE International has 2 travel classes:
Second class:
- seat with adjustable back in a carriage with a middle or side aisle
- 1 electrical outlet for every 2 seats
- a headset outlet at each seat that can be used to listen to audio channels
- there are "kleinkind abteil" (closed off areas where children can play) on board the new ICE 3 trains
- on board the new ICE 3 trains there is a 2nd class "Panorama Lounge", where a glass wall has been placed so that passengers can enjoy the same view as the engine driver
First class:
- seat with adjustable back in a carriage with a middle or side aisle
- 6 cm extra leg room
- free copy of the German "Financial Times" newspaper
- a headset outlet at each seat that can be used to listen to audio channels
- on board the new ICE 3 trains there is a 1st class "Panorama Lounge", where a glass wall has been placed so that passengers can enjoy the same view as the engine driver
- plus: in the backs of the seats on the new ICE 3 trains (Cologne-Frankfurt), video screens have been allowing passengers to view video channels
Lounges
First class passenger may wait, and receive a free non-alcholic beverage, in the DB lounges at the stations in Cologne, Frankfurt Airport and Frankfurt Hbf. You can also watch TV here or read from a selection of newspapers and magazines. There are also riting desks complete with fast internet connection. More information
On board of board ICE International
Catering
Travelling on an ICE International train means comfortable travel. Every detail has been attended to. In the bar/buffet car, you can order a simple meal, sandwiches, salads, hot snacks and beverages and pay in cash or with a credit card. On some ICE International trains, personnel come around to your seat selling beverages and snacks.
See what the engine driver sees
The new ICE International 3 trains (Cologne-Frankfurt) have "Panorama Lounge" compartments. In these compartments a glass wall gives travellers the same view that the engine driver has!
Finding your carriage
Your carriage number is printed on your ticket. On ICE International trains, the carriage numbers are located next to the exterior doors. When stepping onto the platform you can consult the signs that indicate where the carriages are located.
Travel information
Once on board, you will receive "Ihr Reiseplan", a folder that lists the stops the train will make and gives information about departure and arrival times at each station, information about connecting trains, and the services that are available on board. Please also listen to announcements for extra information.
Travellers with impaired mobility
ICE International provides a number of special facilities that make sure our trains are as accessible as possible for everyone, including the elderly, visually impaired and other passengers with impaired mobility. More information
Luggage
You are advised to limit your luggage to what you can easily carry. Your luggage can be stored in the spaces reserved for this purpose. More information
Taking your bicycle along
Would you like to take a standard bicycle, mountain bike, tandem, track bike or recumbent bicycle with you on an international train to a European destination? Some trains have a special place to store your bicycle. More information
Taking your pets along
Most trains allow you to take your pet with you. In certain cases, there are conditions that will have to be met. More information
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted on board.
Timetable ICE International
ICE International high-speed trains depart from stations in the Randstad seven times a day and travel to Oberhausen, Duisburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, and Frankfurt. It only takes 2.5 hours to get from Amsterdam to Cologne and less than 4 hours to get to Frankfurt Hbf! Every day, one of these ICE International trains travels on to Basel with connections to all major Swiss destinations.
